HOW TO CONNECT TO THE CHATROOM:

The easiest way is just to go here and use the web to connect.

Some older macs have difficulty and you may want to read the iRCLE options below.  Also, if you are fairly handy with your computer and the Internet, you may wish to join via IRC. See instructions below.

Chatcircuit is an IRC network. The server address is: irc.chatcircuit.com (see below for how to use this server address). A port number is required. The Chatcircuit port numbers are: 6666, 6668, 6669, and 7000. There is a default port number used by your chat client. You may have to change this number.

The dream chat is held on a channel... also known as a chatroom. A channel name is preceded by a pound sign, "#". The name of your channel is dreamtime. You have to use the pound sign. Thus, when you access the Chatcircuit network, you will join the chatroom, #dreamtime.

You log on to the Chatcircuit network using a chat client like pIRCh or mIRC. These must be downloaded (often for free) and installed on your own computer (see below). After installed, open your chat client from your start menu. You will be given the option of logging on to one of several networks (you may have to choose "Login" from your menu bar if this option is not offered to you).

Choose the Chatcircuit network from the options provided. You may have to add this network if it is not listed. To do this: Choose EDIT SERVER LIST from your SERVER CONNECTION OPTIONS (located on the login screen in pIRCh)... add CHATCIRCUIT as a new server and fill in the information required (usually the server address and port numbers, see above).

Enter your personal information and click on the "connect" button. Wait for confirmation that you are connected to the network and enter the command to join the dreamchat chatroom.

You use the command /join followed by the channel name to join (your entry will look like this: /join #dreamtime). This command is entered into the long box at the bottom of your chat window and must be "sent" by either pressing the "enter" button on your keyboard or by using the "send" button in your chat window (if there is a send button, it will be located at the end of the long box within which you entered the command). You can also list the channel names and choose the dreamchat chatroom by double-clicking on it in your channel window.

All members logged onto the chat will be visible in the "members" window. You chat with these members by typing your comments in the box at the bottom of the chat window. Your comments and other's responses will all be displayed in the main window.

YOU CAN ALSO JOIN THE CHATROOM FROM AN HTML WEBPAGE USING A CGI INTERFACE AND YOUR FAVORITE WEB BROWSER! The URL for this webpage interface is:

http://mirror.at/mindrec

Add the page that opens to your favorites, or copy it and paste it into the address window of your browser to go to the page when you are ready to chat.

Note: The old interface had a warning screen and required you to accept a small java applet download. The new interface only requests you enter a nickname and click LOGIN to join.

Problems?

AOL: if you are having difficulties connecting via the AOL browser, make
sure you have downloaded and installed the latest AOL5.0. If you are using AOL 5 and still experiencing difficulties, select MY AOL/PREFERENCES/WWW. Select the security tab and change the level to Medium-Low. This should
enable the JAVA to work with your browser.

Got a Mac or would like to learn more about downloading and
installing an IRC program?

Step 1: Download and install:
http://www.pirch.com
Windows: Select Pirch98
Mac: Select Ircle

Step 2: Open the program and change the settings as described above. (back)

MAC and IRCle (special instructions)

Place your ircle icon in a place you can find later, such as on your desktop or in a special IRC folder. (make an alias of it and move the alias to this new place. Take only the icon alias that has the circle-wire-box that says IRC or ircle3.0.4 US )

Start AOL or your ISP

Select your ircle program icon (if its not already selected)

Go to the Windows drop down menu on the top command bar and make sure that "Connections" is selected.

Make sure "Users" is selected

Make sure "Console" is selected

Go to this Connections window you opened. If you can't find it, go back to the drop down menu and turn it off and on, it should appear and disappear.

There should be a list of ten or so servers.

Highlight #10 (or any of them ) and then use the EDIT button below.
That will bring up Connection Preferences box

Make sure the IDENTITY tab is selected

Change the Server to chatcircut by selecting the server: SELECT button, scroll through the options to CHATCIRCUT and find irc.chatcircuit.com (highlight and use select key)
This will bring you back to the IDENTITY page.

Click the Nickname: and change to a unique name, probably something with a number such as helen989 or dreamer2323

This is the name others will see you as.

Pick a user name (dreamgal22 or something)

Skip Password

Fill in REAL NAME with ad info, some thing like your website, new books, contact numbers for giving lectures or seminars, etc. or leave it blank
uncheck the INVISIBLE box

#10 on the Connections list should now read with your nickname and server
Make sure it is still highlighted, and select CONNECT

A bunch of info will scroll on the screen, ignore it all and wait for it to stop, under 30 seconds
IN the INPUT box type exactly:

/join #dreamtime

This should put you in the ASD dreaming and chatting room. A new box should pop up with Dreaming_and_Chatting on it, as well as everyone listed who is in the room (If you are the only one, it will just be your Nickname.)

Type a few sentences in the input box and ENTER (return key) to send them. If they are appearing on your screen, you are in!

Questions?

If you have questions about the chat, please e-mail them to Brett , email: unameit@tctc.com.
